Buy Books

Every time before back to Taiwan, I will try to search online bookstore to see any new Chinese books I can buy and bring back to Singapore. Although Singapore Library have some Chinese books, compare to Taiwan it still not as many. You can use the voucher to purchase books on http://www.bookstore.com.tw, save about NT$20, it's better than nothing. But how you get the passcode to get the voucher, you can use some easy guessing tip such as "cheers" before end of June-2006. After all, a penny saved is a penny earned.

Happy Birthday to Russ

We seldom celebrate birthday in Singapore, not only because family is not with us, but also we may not know each others’ birthdays. This coming Monday is Russ’s birthday, we decide to have a birthday party for him after playing badminton in East Coast Lagoon Village Food Centre. Although not every one has the chance to celebrate birthday with family or friends, still wish every one is health and happy no matter where you are located.

Singapore messy?

Most people will think Singapore is a very clean and low obeying place, but I found not every thing you can view from the surface. Last Saturday I went to Ding Tai Feng located in Takashimaya (very pity, this is the 1st time I went there), after we finished it already 11:00pm. Stairs in front of Takashimaya are full with garbage, it's a different view than I remember. I don't know will I become the black list in Singapore because of this photo or not, hope not.

My Dragon Boat Festival

Although Dragon Boat Festival already passed, I still want to eat zongzi to feel the festival. In Singapore mostly we will buy the zongzi in Chinese restaurants or food stall under department stores, of course there are some zongzi stores you still can purchase there such as gold-pearl zongzi store. For convenience I bought zongzies in Carfour, 1 zongzi for S$2.1. I never bought zongzi in Taiwan so I am not sure this is expensive or cheap. The zongzi diversities in Singapore are not as much as in Taiwan, only Cantonese, Hokian, Nyonya and sweet zongzi choices. I tasted Cantonese and Hokian not bad, but a little bit sticky, overall are good.

Yesterday I steamed them and let my flat mate taste it with sweet chili sauce which I brought from Taiwan, she felt good (this is her first try). But I still feel Taiwan zongzi is the best, you can have so many different kinds of flavors, in Taiwan we also have the Hakka zongzies - my favorite.

Inside the bowl is the suiwu soup, I bought the Chinese herb and cooked by myself, but it taste much bitter because I didn't put Red Dates or Black Dates. It need S$2.4 for the suiwu herb pack and not contain China Wolfberry, I think I will bring some Chinese Herb when next time I go back to Taiwan.
